How it all began
Plants have been a constant theme within the works of Ventura potter Ann White. Having started out making ceramic flower pots in the 1970s, these days, Mrs White presses fern leaves, ornamental garlic and strands of grass into rolled porcelain clay that she ultimately turns into gleaming plates, platters and bowls.

Style
" I work exvusievely in porcelain wich is the strongest clay. Each piece is dishwasher, microwave and oven safe. My pieces are functional as well as beautiful and are meant to be used."

How its made
"I use various templates to shape the flattened clay into platters, plates and bowls. Once shaped, I allow the porcelain to dry and then hand paint over the textured etching. The next step in the process is to fire the porcelain in the kiln to remove all of the remaining moisture from the clay. Firing typically takes between eight and ten hours. After the porcelain has cooled, I spray a glaze on the items and then give them a second firing, witch takes another ten to twelve hours.

Naturally Driven
"Inspired by nature, each piece is one of a kind and totally unique. I draw from nature when making my pottery and whether I'm imprinting plants or crafting air bowls, they're meant to be used and enjoyed. I hope you get as much pleasure using my pottery as I did making it."
